マラソンGeneral info & guidelines The Genghis Khan Grassland Marathon is unique in China in its setting across the grassplains around the Inner Mongolian town Xiwuqi (Xiwuzhumuqinqi). It is an extraordinary running experience for everyone: top international runner, after-work hobby runner, young and old. After the competition, there will be an award ceremony in the town’s Cultural Square with prize money for the first positions in the 42.5km race. Following a welcome afternoon rest, people have the option to attend a fantastic Mongolian banquet dinner and/or outdoor bonfire party in the evening at the Mongolian Yurt City (part of the travel package). During the Genghis Khan Festival, there will also be opportunities to visit some local tourism spots.

The venue for the Genghis Khan Festival is Xiwuqi 西乌旗 (Short for Xiwuzhumuqin Qi 西乌珠穆沁旗), a small town about 140 km from Xilinhaote锡林浩特 in the more northern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is an area where the majority of people are still ethnic Mongolian, and you will see the unique traditional Mongolian script everywhere.
Accommodation

All information on travel and accomodation, including our attractive travel packages can be found in this website’s Travel section. Brief: recommended accomodation is in our event hotels ’Electricity Hotel’ (where the Race Office is located) and ’Xiwuqi Hotel’. In addition, participants can stay in Mongolian yurts on Saturday night. The yurts are located out of town at the finish of the second MTB stage. The night in tents is equal to staying in the Hotel.

Xiwuqi has plenty of small restaurants. Close to the event hotels is a famous hotpot restaurant and a Gansu-style noodle place, amongst many others. Via our registration form you can also get coupons for meals at the event hotels if you do not wish to venture about.
Think about

The main specialty food in Inner Mongolia is mutton and milk products. There is limited western food, especially for breakfast where there will be some milk, yoghurt and vegetables/fruit, along with Chinese rice and noodles, but take with you some food of your own if you feel it might be hard for you to eat the local food. Instant coffee is available, however.

Don’t forget
• Sun block and Sun glasses
• Mosquito repellent
• Aspirin and other medicine
• Hygiene articles etc
• Long-sleeved jacket. Given Xiwuqi’s altitude, the temperature can drop significantly at night (relax: it won’t freeze neither)
• Travel documents
• Passport/ID (you need these to check in to the Hotel)
• Flashlight (if you are staying at Menggu Hangcheng Saturday, July 6)
MTBアドベンチャーGeneral info & guidelines After the success of the seven previous Genghis Khan MTB Adventures in Inner Mongolia, Nordic Ways is now preparing for the eighth edition in 2014, which will take place July 4 - July 6, Friday to Sunday. Genghis Khan MTB Adventure is a mountain bike competition in three stages for amateurs and recreational riders. The MTB race will cross the vast grasslands of Xiwuqi, tracing the prints of Genghis Khan. New in 2014 will be a prologue, or an individual time trial race, over approx 5 km on Friday morning. This time trial will stand on its own, however, and will not count for the overall classification.

The venue for Genghis Khan MTB Adventure is Xiwuqi 西乌旗 (Short for Xiwuzhumuqin Qi 西乌珠穆沁旗), a small town about 140 km from Xilinhaote锡林浩特 in the more northern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

We recommend that you bring your own air pump, spare parts and some appropriate tools. Some bike fixing service will be provided, and there is a bikeshop opposite start/finish, but it is recommended to be self-relient, so do bring your own stuff if possible.

All information about travel and accomodation, including our attractive travel packages, can be found in the Travel & Services section of this website. Brief: recommended accomodation is the two event hotels ’Electricity Hotel’ (where the Race Office will be) and ’Xiwuqi Hotel’. Mongolian Yurts (tents) Participants can optionally stay in Mongolian yurts on Saturday. The yurts are located at the finish of the second MTB stage. The Tents contain a shower, but it is advised to bring your own shampoo, towel, slippers etc. Beds are standard with pillow and sheets, so no need to bring sleeping bags. Be aware that the temperature at night can drop significantly. Busses will bring your bags and other material to the Yurt City while you ride the 2nd MTB stage.

On the registration form you can book meals at the two event hotels, i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you like to venture about, Xiwuqi has plenty of small restaurants.

King of the Grasslands As increasingly more people take part in both the running and mountainbiking races at the Genghis Khan Festival, the King of the Grasslands (KOG) competition was formally introduced to the schedule in 2013 and with great response. Over 30 athletes attempted the incredible feat of finishing the 3 long distance stages of the MTB competition as well as the 42.5k long Grassland Marathon running. In 2014, the KOG competition will be supported even more with some prizemoney for the podium placers, as well as some special exclusive gift prizes and honorary certificates.

Regulations

1. In the context of the 2014 Genghis Khan MTB Adventure and Grassland Marathon run, there will be a new additional competition that highlights the athlete who combines and completes the 3-day MTB long distance race and 42km marathon run in the fastest time.
2. Both men and women will be ranked.
3. The male athlete who achieves this feat will receive the honourable title of “King of the Grasslands” , while the fastest female athlete will be the “Queen of the Grasslands”.
4. The official abbreviation for this competition is “KOG”.
5. In order to be ranked in the official KOG competition, athletes must without exception finish within the maximum time limits of all 3 long distance stages of the Genghis Khan MTB Adventure, as well as the 42km Grassland Marathon.
6. The KOG ranking will be established by adding up the finishing time of an athlete’s marathon run with his/her finishing time in each of the three MTB stages. The athlete who completes these four races in the fastest time is the winner of the KOG competition.
7. The winners (m/f) of the KOG competition will get some prizemoney, a special gift prize and a honourable certificate, and will be awarded accordingly during the official final Podium Ceremony of the 2014 Genghis Khan Festival.
8. The Top 6 athletes in the KOG competition will likewise be invited to the final Podium Ceremony and will receive an honourable certificate and sponsor prizes.
9. There is no separate registration for the KOG competition. Athletes are required to sign up for the MTB Adventure and Grassland Marathon following standard procedure (online registration is recommended).
10. The KOG competition is subject to the specific regulations of the MTB Adventure and Grassland Marathon
