3rd ONSEN・Gastronomy Walking at Iwamuro Hot Springs

Niigata City has flourished as a historic port town on the Shinano River, Japan’s largest river flowing to the Sea of Japan. There is fine cuisine and culture in this city of rice and sake, where there is also the seasonal beauty and blessing of the sea, rivers and mountains. With a history going back 300 years to the Edo Period, Iwamuro Hot Springs is also known as “Reigan-no-yu (hot spring of the wild goose spirit” from a legend of a wild goose that was healed in the spring water. Enjoy unique country cuisine such as Koshihikari brand rice , local autumn cuisine, Echigo pork and local sake in the vast rural; landscape, nature-rich countryside, and the charming history of the Hokkoku Road that runs through Iwamuro Hot Springs.

Scenic point	・Course of wide-open fields and history Niigata-shi, Nishikan-ku is known as the place with the highest production of rice in Japan. The outbound walk will take you through the wide-open countryside, and on the return path you can see the historical Shugetsu-ji Temple, a nationally-designated important cultural property, and the Hokkoku Road, the traditional route to the Yahiko region since ancient times.

ONSEN・Gastronomy Tourism is a new tourism that introduces the charm of hot spring resorts in Japan by walking and experiencing the food, nature, culture and history of local areas.
