What is ONSEN Gastronomy Walking? |
ONSEN・Gastronomy Tourism is a new tourism that introduces the charm of hot spring resorts in Japan by walking and experiencing the food, nature, culture and history of local areas.
We open this event, ONSEN Gastronomy Walking, to enjoy a stroll through the beauty of hot spring areas, to experience our history and nature, to taste local foods and beverages, and finally to soak in a soothing hot spring at the end of the tour. |

Take highway bus to “Komagane IC” and it is approx. 5 min by transit bus from “Nyotai Iriguchi” to “Sugano-dai Bus Center” and walk 1 min.
Take highway bus to “Komagane Bus Terminal” and it is approx. 10 min by a transit bus from “Suzuran Dori” to “Suganodai Bus Center” and walk 1 min.

Scenic point |
Komagane Highland is approximately 800m in elevation and is an easily accessible 5-minute drive from Komagane IC of the Chuo Expressway. The view of the lake in all four seasons attracts photographers, especially from mid-October to mid-November when the breathtaking beauty of the fall colors can be seen from the foot to the summit of the Central Alps. Take your time, stroll around, and enjoy Minakoi including Hayataro hot spring village known as “a spring for beautiful skin,” the view of both Alps from the large suspension bridge, the national treasure, Hoshakusan Kozenji Temple, and others.
[Komorebi-no Road]
A relaxing space in the forest with water, beautiful trees, and singing birds. The path follows the Kurokawa River.
[Hombo Sake Brewery, Mars Shinshu Distillery]
At 798m in elevation, the Mars Shinshu Distillery is surrounded by a beautiful deep green forest and is the only whiskey distillery in Nagano prefecture. Mars Whiskey has an authentic taste influenced by“water from melted snow” and “dense fog.”
[South Shinshu Beer]
Minami Shinshu Beer is brewed at the Mars Shinshu Distillery surrounded by clear air and a Karamatsu pine forest. A delicious ale-based beer made with high-quality south Shinshu water that has been pumped from 120m-deep springs of melted snow from the Central Alps.
[Hoshakusan Kozenji Temple]
The famous Kozen-ji Temple in Komagane Highland, where the well-known dog, Hayataro, became legend, was founded in 860 and is one of the largest temples in Shinshu. Many prayers are offered at this foremost sacred spot in south Shinshu. The temple garden is designated as a national scenic spot and the weeping cherry blossoms are also famous at their peak season in late April.
[Onuma Lake]
The beautiful view of the Central and South Alps can be seen from both the east and west side of the lake. In and along the lake you may find Adonis, Skunk Cabbage, Hydrangea, and other plants and flowers. The walk is also recommended during the beautiful fall color season from late October to early November.
[Komagane City Folk Museum]
This museum is one of the few examples of Taisho Era western architecture in Nagano Prefecture. It used to be the Komagane City Office and has been designated as a tangible cultural asset. It has been preserved as a folk museum to display folk culture.
[Former Residence of the Takemura Family]
The National Important Cultural Property “Former Takemura Residence” is thought to have been built in the middle of the Edo period. This private house has a thatched, hipped roof and a tiered entrance which only village leaders were permitted to have. The structure has a magnificent appearance satisfying to the eye.
[Komagaike Pond]
The stunning view of Hokendake Mountain and the Senjojiki Curl Glacier in the Central Alps can be seen from this pond each season and many visitors including photographers visit this site. |
Information on hot springs *hot spring bath (free / discount, etc.) |
Hayataro hot spring village is located in the impressive nature at the foot of the Komagane Highlands of the Central Alps. It was named after the legendary dog, Hayataro, of south Shinshu's foremost sacred site, Hoshakusan Kozenji Temple of the Tendai sect. The hot spring is also know as a “spring for beautiful skin” that is both colorless and scentless and popular among women for its affect of smoothening skin. The splendid view of the Central Alps from the outdoor bath is also a great attraction throughout the year. |

1. In order to hold the event smoothly and safely, participants shall comply with the regulations specified by the organizer and the traffic regulations.
2. The organizer shall not take any responsibility except for emergency measures in case of injury, loss or other accident.
3. The change of time or cancellation by personal reason is not accepted after registration.
4. The event may be canceled in case of an unexpected accident such as natural disaster, stormy weather, or new strain of influenza epidemic, etc. In that case, we can not compensate for the individual expenses such as participation fee, transportation or accommodation expenses.
5. Please check the event homepage for a cancellation notice.
6. It will be an event involving alcoholic beverages. Please enjoy the appropriate amount and please refrain from acting to disturb other participants. (loud voice, excessive drinking, etc.)
7. We may ask for an identification card for age verification. Driving cars, bicycles, etc. with drinking is prohibited by law. Please use public transportation.
8. The posting rights and portrait rights of the convention videos, pictures and articles, records, applicants' names, ages, addresses (country, prefecture/province) to magazines, Internet, etc., belong to the event organizer. |

You can be certified as a member of ”ONSEN Kishidan (Chivalric order of hot springs)” when you register for the walking event. (*No fee to be certified)
”ONSEN Kishidan (Chivalric order of hot springs) is a group of members supporting ONSEN・Gastronomy Tourism and consists mainly of people who have a passions for hot springs.
”ONSEN Kishidan (Chivalric order of hot springs)” members will receive ONSEN・Gastronomy Walking and other up-to-date information.
