What is ONSEN Gastronomy Walking? |
ONSEN・Gastronomy Tourism is a new tourism that introduces the charm of hot spring resorts in Japan by walking and experiencing the food, nature, culture and history of local areas.
We open this event, ONSEN Gastronomy Walking, to enjoy a stroll through the beauty of hot spring areas, to experience our history and nature, to taste local foods and beverages, and finally to soak in a soothing hot spring at the end of the tour. |

Isumi City is a gourmet kitchen where high quality agricultural and marine products can be found. Isumi City is currently promoting the "Gastronomy of Isumi City - San Sebastian Project ." As part of this project, chef Keizo Sugimoto of the Restaurant La Fins, who is an Ambassador of Isumi and the winner of the first Grand Prix of Japan's largest young chef competition "RED U-35," will again participate in the ONSEN&Gastronomy Walking in Isumi. In addition, all guests will be welcomed with plenty of the local fish, lobster and sake that Isumi is proud of.
・[Sotobo Thick-Rolled Sushi]
Sotobo thick-rolled sushi is a regional dish of Isumi that is as tasty as it is beautiful to the eyes. Artistically hand-produced by local mothers, Sotobo Thick-Rolled Sushi has a vivid flower pattern that is definitely worth seeing.
・[Legendary Isumi Salad]
Our legendary salad is the same for which many people requested the recipe at the last event. A collaboration of fresh vegetables grown in Isumi and a dressing from a secret recipe, Isumi salad is made by a young, top-class chef of Japan and is available only at this event.
・[Rich miso soup with lobster]
Prized as the highest quality catch of Japan and having a taste that fascinates top-notch chefs. Miso soup is the ideal way to taste the rich flavor of the lobster.
・[Freshly-baked local bread]
The bread made from a special blend of three kinds of dough is moist and chewy and has a flavor you will never forget. Enjoy our popular fresh bread.
・[Seasonal local sashimi]
Ohara Fishing Port is where precious fish such as red sea bream and flounder are brought to market. Enjoy a most luxurious moment eating the most delicious seasonal sashimi while gazing at the ocean view.
・[Fisherman’s taste, Jia Jia]
”Jia Jia” is an Ohara fishermen’s deep-fried dish of shark meat and vegetables. It won first place in the gourmet category at the food festival, ”Furusato Koshien.”The vibrant smiles and energetic talk of the mothers on the beach symbolize the cheerful city of Isumi.
・[Freshly charcoal-grilled dried fish]
Under the blue sky of the harbor, enjoy char-grilling fresh dried seafood purchased at the local morning market. The deliciousness of dried fish grilled on a charcoal fire will change your impression of dried fish.
・[A Dish of the Day by Keizo Sugimoto]
A menu using Isumi ingredients specially created for this event by chef Keizo Sugimoto renown as the first champion of RED U-35 (GourNavi sponsored), and recipient of a star in the ”Michelin Guide Tokyo” and the Culinary Masters Award (from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries). Enjoy a gourmet dish prepared by a chef in popular demand.
・[Takahide Dairy Farm’s Homemade Gelato (sweet sake)]
As the first prize winner of the French International Cheese Competition, Takahide Ranch began promoting gelato to gain popularity. Their sweet-sake gelato made with home-produced milk in collaboration with Kido Izumi Brewery is a unique gem with a subtle taste enhanced by a delicate aroma of sake.
・[Shumai of Genji Cafeteria (*please go directly to the shop with the provided voucher)]
Genji Cafeteria in front of Ohara Station became a popular tourist attraction of Isumi City since it was introduced in the TV drama 'Kodoku no Gourmet' (Lonely Gourmet). Also acclaimed by former Minister Ishiba, you can not go home without savoring these juicy handmade Shumai filled with Isumi pork.
・[Famous sake of Isumi, Kido Izumi]
Did you know that the meticulous production method of Kido Izumi depends on high-temperature brewing? Like the finest white wine, Kido Izumi has a refreshing crispness due to the acidity and sweetness of pure AFS rice. Additionally, enjoy a variety of sake such as Shizenmai and Junmai Daigo to match the taste of your dishes at each checkpoint. |

・[Rural scenery along the Isumi Railroad]
Through a rural landscape full of the atmosphere of the Showa Era, a journey on the Isumi Railway makes us forget that Isumi City is only 70 minutes from Tokyo. Representative of the Showa Era, a Kiha 28 Series Diesel Locomotive invites a touch of nostalgia even if you are not a fan of trains.
・[Field of Mustard Flowers Project]
Isumi City sowed a field mustard flower seeds throughout the city as part of the "Field of Mustard Flowers Project" this year. It is expected to bloom at the time of the walking event.
・[Ohara Coast]
The Pacific Ocean appears after you pass through the country scenery. Make your way towards the Ohara fishing port walking on the wide open sandy beach with a view of the Pacific Ocean. A travel scene of the Palme d’Or-winning movie ”Shoplifting Family” was filmed on this coast.
・[Ohara Fishing Port・Port Morning Market]
You can enjoy meals feeling the sea breeze of a peaceful port town. The extremely popular ”Port Morning Market” will also be held on the event day for you to enjoy purchasing seasonal produce and seafood, and BBQ. The movie ”Hirugao” (starring Aya Ueto) and the TV series ”Kodoku no Gourmet’ (Lonely Gourmet)” were filmed at the Ohara fishing port.
・[Kido Izumi Sake Brewery]
A huge ”Sugi-dama” (a ball-shaped ornament made of cedar twigs) at the entrance is a signal of the new sake brewing season. Along with a chimney, it is also a symbol of the Kido Izumi Brewery. |

1. In order to hold the event smoothly and safely, participants shall comply with the regulations specified by the organizer and the traffic regulations.

3. The change of time or cancellation by personal reason is not accepted after registration.
4. The event may be canceled in case of an unexpected accident such as natural disaster, stormy weather, or new strain of influenza epidemic, etc. In that case, we can not compensate for the individual expenses such as participation fee, transportation or accommodation expenses."
