What is PARACUP SENDAI? | PARACUP SENDAI is a charity run event organized by a Japanese non-profit organization PARACUP. It helps reconstruction effort of the people affected by 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The event is planned and operated by amateur runners based in Sendai, and the profit of the event is used to support reconstruction efforts including academic and athletic activities of children in the affected area. Blessed with great support by runners, volunteers and sponsors, the first event in 2012 focused on the theme of “joy of running” and publicize the resilience and charm of Tohoku region. The second event featured costume runs, cute local mascots in order to make the event more entertaining. The third run which took place last year made participants realize that the reconstruction in the region is moving forward steadily. This year’s PARACUP SENDAI marks the fourth run and will take place at Sennen Kibou no Oka (Hill of One Thousand-Year Hope) near Sendai Airport. The event will collaborate with Tohoku Food Marathon & Festival and offer great Japanese sake to the participants after the run. As a pre-race event, there will be a free event entitled “Reconstruction Roundtable Discussion and 5K Reconstruction Walk.” The joy and happiness brought by runners and volunteers will make children in Tohoku region smile. The day will be filled with joy and we hope that the joy of running will promote more charitable activities in the area. Come join us with your family, friends, and colleagues to have a great day in Sendai! |
